I’ve discovered that the only way to ‘do’ coupons is to stay organized. Otherwise, you just end up with little bits of smashed pieces of paper at the bottom your purse or stuck between the seats in your car. It took me a while to figure out what method worked for me and you may have to do some work to perfect your own method too, but here’s the method that has worked for me for the last few years.
I definitely don’t take this monster of a binder into the store with me. This is just what I keep at home to keep things organized. When I find a good sale on something I can look back through the binder and just cut-out more coupons for that specific deal.
As you can tell, it’s well-loved. The purple 4 x 6 index cards have different categories written on them that I know our household uses: Beverages, Baking, Body Care, etc. You should use whatever categories make the most sense for you. In here I put coupons for things that I know we generally use and when there’s a really good deal on something and I want to stock-up on it, that’s when I go back to the big red binder to cut-out more coupons for a certain deal.
So, where do you get all of these coupon inserts?
This is something that I’ve had to work on. We get the Sunday paper where inserts are traditionally found, and since all of my neighbors do as well, I’ve asked them to save me their inserts when they’re done looking through them. So right now I have about 3 neighbors, one dance teacher, and 2 friends saving me their coupons. Plus, our neighborhood gets a freebie paper delivered mid-week that also has the same inserts as the Sunday paper so I get those too. Then I just save them in page protectors, with the date written in black Sharpie marker so it’s easier to see and wait until a great deal comes around that I want to stock-up on!
