How to shop like a “Reasonable Couponer”
I get asked this all the time, especially by the people in line behind me at the grocery store.” How did you save so much money?” I also hear, “I wish my wife used coupons like you do.” Here’s the dirty little secret-I don’t shop like most people. I’m a total freak of nature. I only buy what’s on sale AND what I have a coupon for and then I buy A LOT of it. Not like an extreme couponer more like a ‘Reasonable Couponer.’
When I can get a good deal on something I stock-up, that’s a no-brainer, right? But I even stock-up on things that I have no use for….and that’s it right there. I’ve lost some of you. Now you really do think I’m one of those people. Why would I buy diapers if I don’t have kids? Why would I buy Ensure if I’m not sick or underweight (underweight….that likely will never be something I will ever, I mean ever, worry about.). Why would I buy Depends if I’m not incontinent? These are all good questions, questions that I used to ask myself. And here’s a really good answer-if I can get those things FREE that someone else can use them I’m going to buy as many as I can and donate those things to someone or some group or organization that can.
Did you know?
Did you know that here is a pet food pantry in both St Louis and Jefferson, MO counties? Did you know that Nurses for Newborns is always looking for formula and diapers? Did you know that Cardinal Ritter Senior Services helps low-income seniors with Ensure and Depends? So when I can get something cheap or even free I like to use my skills for good and donate them to others who don’t have the capacity or the time to stock-up like I do. And just imagine if everyone picked up just a little something extra on their trips to Walgreens or CVS or the store. You’ve seen a photo of other couponer’s stockpiles…does anyone really need 60 laundry detergents? I mean, I am all for a good deal, a good reasonable deal. Buy some items for yourself and then find someone who needs what you’ve got more than you do and give some of it away. It’s just the right thing to do.
Stay-tuned as I post on where to recycle/give-away/up cycle your stockpiled items!
